Pool Filter Cleaning & Replacement

Routine filter cleaning is a necessary part of owning a pool. We track your filter’s wear by pressure and time, so you only pay for a clean when it’s genuinely due.

What a Clogged Filter Actually Does to Your Pool

Every gallon in your pool passes through the filter. That means every bit of debris, dust, oil, and microscopic gunk the skimmer and pump baskets miss ends up loading into it over time.

When the buildup gets bad enough, three things happen:

  • Water flow drops and circulation slows down
  • The pump works harder, draws more energy, and wears out faster
  • Chemistry gets harder to balance because filtration isn’t keeping up

A pump replacement runs into the thousands. A filter clean does not. The math takes care of itself.

How We Know It's Time

We log your filter pressure at every weekly visit:

  • A clean filter has a baseline reading. As debris loads up, that reading climbs.
  • Once the filter’s PSI is above the clean baseline, you’re due.
  • Some filter types and debris loads also call for a time-based reminder, which pairs with pressure for a complete picture.

Both methods feed into our route management software (Skimmer), so nothing falls through the cracks. You don’t have to call us, watch the gauge, or guess. We tell you when it’s time, and we tell you why.

How We Know Its Time To Clean Pool Filters

What's Inside Your Filter

Cartridge Filters

Pleated cartridges trap debris across a large surface area. Cleaning means pulling the cartridges, breaking down the housing, hosing them out, and sometimes soaking them to clear oils and minerals.

DE Filters

Grids coated in diatomaceous earth catch the finest particles of any filter type. Cleaning involves a full breakdown, rinsing the grids, and recharging the system with fresh DE powder.

Sand Filters

Sand or specialty media traps debris as water passes through. Routine backwashes handle most buildup, however older media may need replacement.

We Clean Filters Separately From Our Weekly Service

We streamline our weekly cleaning and pool maintenance by separating out filter cleaning—pool filters generally don’t need weekly attention. This separation allows us to keep costs lower while also letting our team to focus on the parts of your pool that do need regular cleaning and care.

We’ll help you keep on eye on your filter and tell you when it needs to be cleaned or replaced, and we’ll handle that labor through an affordable one-time service fee.

Common Questions

Most pools land in the once or twice a year range, but heavy debris loads, large bather use, and certain filter types can push that higher. We track yours at every visit and only recommend a clean when the data calls for it.

You’ll hear from us. When the pressure crosses the threshold or the time-based reminder triggers, we send a recommendation and a quote before any work happens.

Sudden pressure jumps usually point to something other than routine buildup. A damaged grid, a torn cartridge, or a blockage downstream, or damaged equipment can all show up the same way on the gauge. We check the whole system before assuming a clean will fix everything.

No. We handle scheduling around our existing weekly route, with two full days plus two half days a week dedicated to filter cleans during peak season. You’ll get a heads-up before we come out.

Yes. If you’d rather have it on the calendar at a fixed cadence, we’ll set that up. The pressure tracking still runs in the background as a check, in case something needs attention sooner.
